NurseConnect

NurseConnect brings groups of individual subscribers together to network and seek peer and expert advice and opinions.

NurseConnect Framework

The NurseConnect framework is a guide for forming communities of practice (CoP) and forums on the NurseONE portal. This document will help users plan and implement professional groups within the context of NurseONE. I would like to talk with someone about forming a Community of Practice.

Communities of Practice

A community of practice is a group of practitioners who share a common interest in a specific area of competence and are willing to work together” (Clemmons Rumizen, 2002).

Private communities on NurseONE

  1. The Network The CoP of CNA’s Canadian Network of Nursing Specialties streamlines communication and allows knowledge and information resource sharing. Their CoP ensures that the network members are consulted on pertinent nursing issues and informed of CNA activities. Margot McNamee, senior nurse advisor, Professional Practice, is the CNA staff liaison for this network and can be reached at 1-800-361-8404, ext. 222, or mmcnamee@cna-aiic.ca. Elizabeth Morin is the administrative liaison and she can be reached at 1-800-361-8404, ext. 234, or emorin@cna-aiic.ca.

  2. CNA Board of Directors The Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) board of directors CoP encourages board members to actively participate in decision-making and address issues critical to nursing and health care. Their work is committed to effective leadership of CNA.

  3. Enhancing Nurses Access for Care Quality and Knowledge through Technology (ENACQKT) This CoP provides the opportunity for nurses working in five of the Caribbean countries to interact with each other. Their CoP allows them to share their knowledge and enables them to work collaboratively on an ongoing basis to improve their patient outcomes.

  4. First Nations Inuit Health (FNIH) have two CoPs on NurseONE. Both provide opportunities for sharing evidence-based information resources, networking, leadership development opportunities and collaborative development of indigenous knowledge content. Their CoPs help to fulfil their mission to increase the health and wellness of First Nations and Inuit peoples of Canada.

  5. Nursing Informatics Journal Club (NIJC) This CoP aims to facilitate the critical evaluation, dissemination and distribution of evidence-based informatics research by keeping abreast of advancing nursing and health informatics literature, facilitating peer networking, enabling participants to develop expertise in critiquing research and enhancing debating skills.

  6. Regulatory Nursing This CoP provides RN regulatory body staff members with a common spot to access information and resources on regulatory issues, exams and innovations in regulatory policy. One of the six goals of the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) is to advance the regulation of registered nurses in the interest of the public.
